The following are excerpts from the 2006 Hate Incidents Report from the Bloomington Human Rights Commission.
- In July 2005, we received a report that someone had scratched a vehicle and keyed the word "fag" on the car door.
- In July 2005, we received a report from BPD that someone had used lipstick to write "father/son" and "fag" on the front door of a residence.
- In September 2005, we received a report from an individual that someone had painted anti-gay language at a Greek house, saying that members of the organization "lick ass holes" and that "faggots rush it."
- In October 2005, we received a report from an individual that a couple of young men had removed a gay pride flag from outside a store, stolen it and burned it.
- In November 2005, we received reports from numerous sources about a protest and flag-burning in front of a downtown store that flies a gay pride flag. The protesters told a reporter they were demonstrating against "the elite city of Bloomington [that] harbors an elitist, faggot business.
- In November 2005, we received a report from an individual who said he had experienced two negative incidents at a gas station. The first time, when he returned to his car after paying for gas, he found someone had written "cock-sucking faggot" on his car door. The next time he bought gas at this station, someone wrote "next time bring knee pads" on his car.
- In November 2005, we received a report from BPD saying someone had written "queers" and "peter puffers" on the door of a downtown store that flies a gay pride flag.
- In March 2006, we received a report from BPD that someone had vandalized the press box at a local high school. Someone wrote "redemption" on the walls, as well as comments about smoking "weed" and slurs against homosexuals.
- In April 2006, we received a report from BPD that a citizen had called a city employee a homophobic slur.
- In May 2006, we received a report from BPD that some neighbors had harassed two male tenants, calling them homophobic names and beating on their door and windows.
- In June 2006, we received a report from BPD that a pedestrian was called "fag" by someone in a group. He yelled back, "Come here and say that to me." The group came at him in an aggressive manner, so he ran home, locking the door behind him. His window was broken and his door was damaged, apparently by a member or members of the group.
